The coaching process
and methodology relate directly to desired outcomes. What
is important is that short-term and long-term coaching outcome
goals are established. Long-term goals include the mutual
vision of the executive and coach regarding the outcome
of the coaching process. Short-term goals define what should
happen during each specific coaching session, and are agreed
to at the beginning of each session.
Coaching partnerships
include a signed agreement between coach and client and
are in segments of three-month intervals. Most coaching
partnerships are for a total duration of six-to-twelve months.
A few fundamentals inherent in the Swan Consulting
Group coaching philosophy include:
Clients maintain a
journal
Each meeting includes
an agenda (which can be modified at the beginning of any
session)
Most sessions include
the review of assignments agreed to at the end of the
previous session
The coaching focus
is career, which includes elements of life coaching
Confidentiality is
essential
The Strength Deployment
Inventory (Personal Strengths Publishing, Inc.) will be
considered as part of the discovery data
At the conclusion
of the coaching partnership a summary of progress, including
goal attainment, will be provided. In addition, agreed
upon areas for continued work and charting will be established.
Brief coaching check-ins
(follow up) with the executive will take place for a period
of up to six months following the conclusion of the formal
coaching relationship. Follow up typically entails brief
phone and/or email correspondence.
Most sessions include
a three-point review:
1. Business
2. Health and Fitness
3. Personal
The recommended coaching
approach is frequently that of a disciplined effort to assess
more comprehensively the leadership and communication skill
level strengths and limitations present. Coaching outcome
goals will then be established.
